Broward County Council

Fleet Week 2007 sailed quickly by the members of our Council.  The festivities started on April 30 with an official greeting and all hands party at Hard Rock Paradise.  The Council hosted a junior officers party on May 1 at Riverfront Briny Pub.  This was a great location and everyone in attendance enjoyed great food and conversation.  Some lucky Council members then had the privilege of enjoying lunch on the visiting ships.  Some members were aboard the USS Ponce where, coincidentally, our community affiliate, Tropical Acres, had their chef and other staff members.  The crew of the Ponce was simply fantastic and gave a very informative tour of the ship after lunch.  These are just some of the festivities that Council members were involved in during the week.  Don and Phylis Bannister sold Fleet Week t-shirts; others volunteered at the port, the golf tournament, the official greeting, just to name a few.  Although we were sad to see the ships leave Port Everglades, I am sure some members were glad to finally catch up on their sleep.
