County Council
The 104th annual Navy League convention was
held in St Thomas from July 12-16, 2006 at the Frenchman's and
Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort. Those attending the conference had a
productive schedule with enough time to explore the sights and sounds of
beautiful St. Thomas. Joe and Marianne Giambrone represented the Council
and were able to meet and share ideas with members from councils from around
the world. Other local Florida Navy Leaguers in attendance were
Julie Herring and George and Loretta Baldwin of the Boca Raton Council,
Shelly Beck, Hank Petri, Pat Dumont and Norm Daly of the Fort Lauderdale
Council. Joe accepted the Council's meritorious award as well as the
award for "honorable mention" for our public relations activities
from President John Panneton.
Charles W. Turnbull, Governor of the US
Virgin Islands provided the welcome address. Admiral Thad W. Allen,
USCG Commandant, was the speaker at the banquet. There were various
social events and seminars held throughout the convention. The St
Thomas/St John Council members were extremely friendly and accommodating and are
to be applauded for sponsoring an exceptional event.
Next year's convention will be held in Palm
Springs.
