Support for Youth
The Broward County Florida Council of the Navy League of the United States is dedicated to supporting the school Junior ROTC Programs and the Navy League sponsored US Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
We recognize the importance of developing the future leaders of tomorrow. Each year the Council recognizes outstanding cadets from the following JROTC Units:
- Cooper City HS
- Flanagan HS
- Nova HS
- Stranahan HS
- Taravella HS
The Council also awards a $100.00 Scholarship to a graduating Senior and the Teddy Roosevelt Medal to a qualifying Junior. The presentations are made at the annual school awards program.
In addition, the Council is a Partner in Education with the Silver Ridge Elementary School. The crews of visiting Navy ships often visit the school when in port. The students are able to take tours of visiting ships as well. The children make holiday cards that are sent to our adopted ships.
Personal Care Packages
Many men and women serving on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan have no families or do not receive mail and care packages from home.
The Broward County Council with directors Al and Shelly Stein leading the way are working together with Operation HomeFront in an effort to get as many "care packages" as possible mailed to our troops deployed to the Middle East. We have received many donations of hygiene items, comfort items, OTC medications and snack foods from outside sources and this has allowed us to fill up many "care packages".
We constantly need funds for postage for the packages. Should anyone wish to assist, send your check for any amount in favor of BCNL and mail to Tom Jones, Treasurer, 6201 SW 16th Street, Plantation FL, 33317
